San Diego State is sparking something in the city of San Diego.
Over the last 4 seasons, the Aztecs and the Broncos have split their matchups. At home, the Aztecs have only lost one game to the over the 19 game history.
The Aztecs are on a roll. The focus, the stats, and numbers are for real. The Aztecs and the fan base are believing once again, that they’re watching something special unfold in Viejas arena and their streams.
With all the coaching changes and assistant talk at San Diego State,
one person who doesn’t get enough credit for this upswing is former Boise State assistant Chris Acker.
Acker assumed the defensive void Rod Palmer and Justin Hutson before him. On paper, yes he is an assistant coach, but he carries the weight of coaching up the defense of the Aztecs.
Acker was key in developing guard Justinian Jessup who the Aztecs will see on Saturday. In 2018-2019 Jessup lead Boise St in scoring and rebounds. On Wednesday night against UNLV, he became Boise State’s all-time leading 3-point shooter. The 4-year senior is 16 3-pointers away from claiming the Mountain West All-time 3-point record currently held by BYU alum Jimmer Fredette.
Acker has done an amazing job of coaching up his transfers and getting the team ready for this season. He now has had the extra time to prepare his current team against his former team.
For San Diego State to win this game is to make sure Nolan Narain is game-time ready if the Mensahs aren’t available. And we’ll see from there. Narain is making an impact, despite disappearing for a few years.
