7-round mock draft has Cardinals going offense with first 3 picks

With the NFL draft just days away, some final mock drafts are being published, giving final predictions and scenarios. One of the latest comes from NFL.com’s Chad Reuter, who put together a full seven-round mock draft.

For the Arizona Cardinals, he has them going with an offensive player in each of their first three selections and six offensive players overall, including three from Oklahoma.

Here are his selections and some thoughts on them.

Round 1, pick 1: Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray

 Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

At this point, projecting anyone else seems absurd. There is a small chance they go with Nick Bosa or trade out if a team wants to move up for a quarterback, but there is too much smoke to not believe there is a fire for Murray.

Round 2, pick 1: Oklahoma WR Marquise Brown

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

This would be a home-run selection at the top of the second round. However, there is no way he will still be on the board. He has the best chance of being a game-changing player for his team. Pairing him with Murray in the pros would be lots of fun.

Round 3, pick 1: Mississippi TE Dawson Knox

USA TODAY Sports

No offensive lineman yet in the draft for the Cardinals, but they add another weapon for Murray in Knox, giving them a nice trio of Charles Clay, Ricky Seals-Jones and Knox.

Round 4, pick 1: Penn State EDGE Shareef Miller

Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

The Cardinals finally do something on defense, adding Miller. He has 7.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss last year for the Nittany Lions. A selection here of a pass rusher is similar to the picks of Sam Acho and Alex Okafor many years ago. Hopefully, Miller can bring some okay production.

Round 5, pick 1: Oklahoma OT Bobby Evans

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Cardinals grab a third Oklahoma player in the draft, adding a lineman. He was a three-year starter and played both tackle spots. The Cardinals look okay at tackle in 2019 with D.J. Humphries and Marcus Gilbert. Maybe Korey Cunningham can pair with Evans as starters in 2020.

Round 6, pick 1: Kentucky S Mike Edwards

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Cardinals coaches were seen scouting Edwards and other defensive backs at Kentucky’s pro day. Edwards had 82 tackles. 9.5 for a loss, two picks and six broken up passes in 2018.

Round 6, pick 6: Buffalo WR Anthony Johnson

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

Johnson had 57 receptions for over 1,000 yards, averaging nearly 18 yards per reception. He scored 11 touchdowns in the MAC. His NFL player comp is one Cardinals fans will know — Bryant Johnson. Johnson is known as a big first-round draft bust for the Cardinals and one of the players they landed instead of Terrell Suggs.

However, he had a nine-year NFL career and if that is the type of player the Cardinals can get in the sixth round, there should be no complaining.

Round 7 picks

 Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

The Cardinals have three of the final seven picks in the draft. Reuter has them taking these players:

  • Utah State RB Darwin Thompson
  • Auburn DT Dontavius Russell
  • Kentucky CB Derrick Baity
