The Eagles will have a short journey for their final preseason game of the summer, making the quick trip up Interstate 95 for their yearly battle with the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Thursday.
With several players on the notable roster bubble and cuts likely starting immediately after the ballgame, Here are seven players to watch on Thursday night.
1. Clayton Thorson
Thorson’s future in Philadelphia seems uncertain with Josh McCown playing so well and Nate Sudfeld preparing for his return from a wrist injury. Thorson is likely a practice squad candidate and a strong performance against the Jets could allow him to land on the waiver wire with another team.
2. Greg Ward
This is the third opportunity for Ward in the Eagles training camp and he may have finally done enough to snatch a roster spot from Mack Hollins. Ward has looked explosive at times and a huge outing on Thursday night could cement his place.
3. Alex Ellis
Ellis was signed after camp started, but the tight end that resembles Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert with physical gifts has made a strong impression on Eagles coaches and could be a darkhorse candidate.
4. Josh Adams
With the Eagles running back depth chart set with Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders, Corey Clement, and Darren Sproles, Adams will look to show off his skills to the Eagles and any other club looking for a physical, downhill running back.
5.Josh Sweat
The fourth-round pick from FSU has been outplayed by Daeshon Hall this preseason and despite his lofty physical tools, Sweat is another average outing away from being cut. Sweat may not need a huge game on Thursday, but he definitely has to make his presence felt.
6. T.J. Edwards
The undrafted rookie out of Wisconsin is a talented thumper who could become the Eagles starting middle linebacker one day soon. Edwards has looked solid in relief of Nate Gerry and has been one of the highest graded middle linebackers this preseason. Edwards had a team-leading seven tackles last week against the Ravens and looks like a player to keep for the Birds.
7. Stefen Wisniewski
Wisniewski has struggled at guard and center during this stint with the Eagles and now seems like a long-long shot, to make the Eagles 53 man roster which is loaded with solid interior linemen. Wisniewski will have to play well at center on Thursday or risk being cut.
