7 killed, 1 injured as 2 cars collide on Srisailam highway

HYDERABAD: Seven persons died and one escaped with injuries when two cars collided on the Srisailam national highway. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the deceased families.

According to Nagarkurnool police the mishap took place at around 6.30 pm. Four persons _ Shiva Kumar, Murthy, Subha Lakshmi and a teenage boy _ travelling towards Hyderabad, when their car had a head-on collision with another car in which Vamsi, Venkatesh, Naresh Kumar and an unknown person were travelling in the opposite direction. They were heading towards Srisailam.

Police said that a 15-yearold boy, Shiva Kumar, Murthy, Subha Lakshmi, Vamsi, Venkatesh and an unknown person died on the spot where as Naresh Kumar, who escaped with injuries was shifted to a local hospital.

“At the time of the accident, it was found that the car in which Shiva and others were travelling, was plying at a very high speed and it suddenly turned to right, when another vehicle was coming in the opposite direction. It looks that the driver of the car which was heading to Hyderabad suddenly lost control over the wheel and this led to a head on collision,’’ Nagarkurnool superintendent of police Y Sai Sekhar told TOI.

Both the cars, especially the vehicle heading to Hyderabad, got completely damaged. Police officials found it difficult to remove the dead bodies.
