7 Fiji Holidays To Book If You’re Over Hanging Out With Your Fam
Who said Fiji is just hanging out with that one loudmouthed cousin for days on end?
Whether you’re a thrillseeker looking for jet skis and bungee jumping, or a relaxed vacationer wanting to lounge on a gorgeous private island, there’s something for everyone in Fiji.
Today, I’m breaking down all of the different types of Fiji holidays that’ll beat a family cruise any day.

Slow living made easy
If this is your type of holiday, then you’re my type of person.
Fiji’s Yasawa Islands are perfect for slow, off-grid living. You’ll experience tropical paradise at its finest with pristine beaches, dramatic peaks, and sun-drenched shores.
Plus, Blue Lagoon starring Brooke Shields was filmed on one of these islands, too — Nacula Island, to be specific. If you’ve ever wanted to live out your Emmeline Lestrange dreams (minus the whole shipwreck schtick), now’s the time.
My pick for accommodation would be Oarsman’s Bay Lodge Fiji, a beachfront boutique resort that’s perched across fifteen acres alongside one of the most stunning beaches in Fiji. You won’t be setting any morning alarms if you stay here, I’ll tell ya that much.
Surfer heaven
For more of a “surf’s up” vibe (can you tell I don’t surf?), Fiji has you covered.
Namotu Island is situated right next to some of Fiji’s best surf breaks. You could ride the legendary Cloudbreak, which is just 10 minutes away, and be back in time to grab some chomp. Fun fact: Cloudbreak is actually where some of the raft scenes in Cast Away were filmed. The more you know, friends.
If you’re less adept on a surfboard but still want to join in on the fun, there’s heaps of resident ‘surf guides’ to help out with your time on the water, and lots of beginner waves that you could tackle, too.
Another great surfing option is Tavarua Island, with seven different breaks to choose from that range from beginner to expert. Of particular note is the Namotu Lefts break, which is perfect for surfers who are just beginning to find their groove.

A night (or a few) on the town
If you’ve been to Fiji before, you’re probably familiar with Port Denarau — the self-proclaimed “bustling heartbeat” of the mainland.
It’s a great option for those who are planning to catch boats and ferries out to different islands, but it also transforms into a nightlife hotspot after dark.
Cardo’s Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar is a fave among locals, travellers and expats, serving up — you guessed it — steaks and cocktails like no other. The Sheraton in Denarau has also opened up a new speakeasy and whisky bar with great food to match. It’s giving elevated nightlife.
If you wanted to venture out a little more, day bars such as Cloud 9 could be right up your alley and are easily accessible from Port Denarau. You’ll find DJs and the most delicious wood-fired pizza — and here’s the kicker — on a floating bar in the middle of the ocean. It’s quite the experience.
Wellness baddies, rise up
If you’re after a break dedicated to chill time, with yoga and surfing to finally loosen up your traps (same, queen), Fiji has you covered.
Waidroka Bay Resort offers a blend of authentic Fijian culture mixed in with surfing, diving, fishing and overall relaxing. Their main offering, however, are their specialised opportunities for off-grid retreats filled with yoga, good vibes, and wellness at its core.
It’s also a small, intimate resort with only a handful of bures, so you’ll get to experience Fiji at its finst without all of the hustle and bustle. Winning.
Plus, even if you can’t get to Waidroka, fear not — Fiji itself already feels like a retreat. It’s all sunshine, warm oceans, and slow living. I feel detoxed just thinking about it.

Underwater adventure vibes
Thrillseekers, I see you. I’m not you, but I see you regardless.
Fiji is rife with opportunities to dive, swim, stand-up paddle board, and kayak. Of particular note here is Mantaray Island, most known for its locality to manta rays.
Staying at this resort means you’ll be able to swim alongside these massive, gentle creatures. It’s a pretty sick, once-in-a-lifetime type vibe if I do say so myself.
If you’re really wanting to get that heart rate up, you can also dive with sharks (yes, sharks) across the Yasawa Islands. There are regular day trips available from a few of the different islands, all of which will get that adrenaline pumping.
Private island? Don’t mind if I do
Visiting a private island, AKA cosplaying as the one per cent for a day, is quintessential Fiji.
There’s heaps of options to visit a private island for just one day where you can sip, slop, and slap to your heart’s content.
One particular island worth visiting is Malamala Beach Club. It offers day passes, so you can experience private island paradise for yourself. You’ll be surrounded by soft, white sand, glistening waters, and coral reefs.
There’s plenty more where that came from, with private beachside cabanas if you want to avoid heaps of people, an infinity-edge pool, and heaps of water sports all at your disposal. I’ve never wanted to be on a private island more.

Adults only
If you really want to escape the fam (and let’s face it, the kiddies), there’s plenty of adults-only island options in Fiji.
Lomani Island and Tropica Island in the Mamanuca islands are two great examples of intimate adults-only resorts that are perfect for weddings, honeymoons, babymoons, or any other kid-free occasions you’re after.
Think private villas with pools perched right on the beach, paired with amazing food and cocktails. It’s an unparalleled experience.
Psst: if you’ve made it this far, congratulations, you win!
Well, you haven’t won yet, but you could.
Wilson Sporting Goods and Tourism Fiji are combining forces to offer one lucky winner a trip to Fiji for two in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Cast Away. To enter, all you need to do is spend $250 or more at Wilson Sporting Goods, and you’re in the running.
If you’re wanting to make one of these Fiji trips (or let’s face it, a few of ‘em) your reality, this comp could be what you’ve been waiting for. Best of luck.
