MOHALI: The police have arrested seven drug runners in four separate cases in the last 24 hours in the district. In total, Mohali police recovered 6gm of ice (hard drug) and 170gm heroin from their possession, said the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vivek Sheel Soni.
Three drug runners have been arrested by Phase 8 police station and recovered heroin and ice in two separate cases of drug smuggling. The accused arrested with ice have been identified as Jagteshwar Singh, a resident of Kurali district and Gurpal Singh, a resident of Muktsar Sahib district.
DSP City 2 Harsimran Singh Bal said the police party was patrolling the old bus stand of Phase 8 when they stopped the accused on suspicion.
Whereas in another case, Phase 8 police, arrested accused, identified as Narinder Singh, a resident of Sector 45 Burail in Chandigarh, who is currently living on rent in Sector 63, with 20gm heroin. A case has been registered against the three under the NDPS Act.
In another case, station house officer of Kharar Sadar, inspector Yogesh Kumar said his police party put up a blockade to check and stopped a man who tried to slink away when he saw police team and threw a poly pack from his pocket on the road side. When the police searched him, 5gm heroin was recovered from the accused Gurwinder Singh alias Guggi resident of Ferozepur.
In the fourth case, Dhakoli police at Zirakpur arrested three drug runners and recovered 155gm heroin from their possession at old Ambala-Kalka road on a tip-off. The three were identified as Shiv Kumar, a resident of Nangal Dam, Lovely Verma and Rajan, residents of Khanna. tnn
