7 crazy stats from the Texans’ 31-24 win over the Chiefs

Fresh off a monumental win against the Atlanta Falcons in which the Houston Texans scored 53 points, making it the eighth time the team scored 40-plus points. It was also the second time the team scored 50-plus points in the Deshaun Watson era.

This week the Texans were able to get their second win in a row against the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-24. Even though the team did not have the same record-setting win last week, they still had seven crazy stats.

1. Andy Reid and the Chiefs lost back to back games for the first time since 2015

Say what you will about Reid’s struggles in the postseason or his issues with clock management, one thing Andy Reid does well is rebound well after a loss. Before Sunday’s loss, Reid has not lost back to back games during his time with the Chiefs since 2015. Those two losses came against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3, and then the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4. However, that changed this week after losing to Houston, as well as losing last week’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

2. zero qb sacks given up for the first time since 2014

One reason the offense has been so potent for back to back weeks is due to the offensive line keeping quarterback Deshaun Watson clean. For the first time since Weeks 1-2 of 2014, the Texans did not surrender a single quarterback sack. One of the biggest reasons is the arrival of Laremy Tunsil, who may be the most talented left tackle the Texans have had since Duane Brown.

3. tashaun gipson gets first multi-int season since 2017

When going against a high powered offense like the Chiefs it is important to have a defense that can create turnovers, and that job may be easier with Tashaun Gipson. With his interception in Sunday’s game that gives him his first multi-interception season since 2017 when he was with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Both of his interceptions have come in back to back weeks against Atlanta and Kansas City. In 2017, he had four interceptions for Jacksonville, which are the third-highest of his career.

4. watson owns the most games with multi-rushing tds by a texans qb

Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

With the team currently having the 10th-ranked passing offense in the league, it is often forgetten about how dangerous Watson is as a runner. This week Watson had two rushing touchdowns, making it his second game doing so. That performance also set a franchise record for the most multi-rushing TD games by a QB.

5. bill o’brien is 34-3 when leading at halftime

During yesterday’s game, the Texans had a 23-17 lead over the Chiefs. With that win it improved Bill O’Brien’s record to 34-3 when leading at halftime. Houston’s 91.89 winning percentage when leading at the half is tied for the second-best in the NFL during that span.

6. 4-2 for the third time

The Texans are 4-2 for the third time in team history. Their best start to date has been 5-1 back in 2012. The Texans were 4-2 in 2016 and in 2010 with the latter being the lone year they did not make the playoffs. However, with quarterback Deshaun Watson under center, it should be a different ending for Houston.

7. 19th straight game with a turnover

Houston has forced a turnover for their 19th straight game, which is currently the longest active streak in the NFL and the second-longest streak in NFL history. The top record is currently 23 straight games.
