7 crazy stats from the Texans’ 22-19 OT win over the Bills

The Houston Texans took care of the Buffalo Bills 22-19 in overtime in the AFC wild-card Saturday at NRG Stadium.

Led by quarterback Deshaun Watson and defensive end J.J. Watt, the Texans overcame a 13-0 halftime deficit to storm back and win the franchise’s fourth ever postseason win.

With the victory, the Texans advance to the divisional round to face the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Here are seven crazy stats from the wild-card game that helped Houston advance.

The two-time Pro Bowler threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to running back Carlos Hyde in the fourth quarter, and it helped Watson tie Osweiler and Schaub for the most postseason passing touchdowns in club history with two apiece.

Believe it or not, but Watt’s sack of Bills quarterback Josh Allen in the third quarter was his first postseason sack since the 2012 AFC divisional playoffs against the New England Patriots.

Even more stunning is that Watt is second in Texans postseason sacks with 6.0. OLB Whitney Mercilus owns more with 7.0.

On the afternoon, OLB Whitney Mercilus tied DeMarcus Ware for the second-most postseason quarterback hits since 2015 with 12. Only Trey Flowers owns more with 22.

4. multiple two-pointers

The Texans went 2-of-2 on two-point conversions against the Bills, which made them the sixth team in NFL history to successfully convert multiple two-pointers in a playoff game. The other four were the ’94 Chargers, ’95 Lions, ’02 49ers, ’16 Patriots, and the ’18 Seahawks.

5. surpassing andre johnson

Receiver DeAndre Hopkins increased his postseason receptions to 28, taking first place from Johnson, who tallied 25 for the Texans.

6. zach cunningham dazzles again

The former 2017 second-round pick from Vanderbilt became the third player in Texas history to log at least five total tackles, a tackle for loss, and a pass breakup in a postseason game. The other two were CB Johnathan Joseph (2011) and DE J.J. Watt (2012).

7. inside the 20

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Punter Bryan Anger had three punts land inside the 20-yard line. As such, they were the second-most punts inside the 20 in a playoff game in Texans history. Only Shane Lechler’s four from the 2016 AFC wild-card were more.
