The Houston Texans named coach Bill O’Brien the club’s fourth ever general manager in team history on Tuesday along with promoting Jack Easterby to executive vice president of football operations.
However, there were other moves the organization made to their coaching staff and front office that flew under the radar while most people were focused on the new titles given to O’Brien and Easterby. Here are seven moves that also were reported on Tuesday via the Houston Chroncile’s Aaron Wilson.
1. d’anton lynn promoted to secondary coach

When secondary coach Anthony Midget left the Texans to join the Tennessee Titans for the same job, Houston simply promoted their assistant secondary coach to the top position. The son of Los Angeles Chargers coach Anthony Lynn will have the task of coaching a unit that features young talent in safety Justin Reid and cornerback Lonnie Johnson.
2. romeo crennel stays on the staff

Much like in 2017 when Mike Vrabel took over as the defensive coordinator, Crennel is going to stay on the Texans’ coaching staff in an advisory role. In that season, in which the Texans finished last in the AFC South at 4-12, Crennel held the title of assistant head coach. It is unclear yet what title Crennel will officially have in 2020. It is well known that Crennel is a member of the staff that is in coach Bill O’Brien’s inner circle, someone he leans on for advice.
3-7. strength and conditioning, player engagement get shakeup

The Texans fired J.J. Moses, who was their director of player engagement. Houston also dismissed executive assistant for football administration Eva Graham and pro/college scouting administrative assistant Amber Davies.
Houston also fired assistant strength and conditioning/performance therapist Billy Voltaire along with assistant strength coach Jason George.
The changes reflect the Texans’ quest to put together a coaching and front office staff that is unified in O’Brien and Easterby’s vision.
