7 arrested after Chicago's Bean sculpture vandalized overnight

CHICAGO _ Charges were pending early Tuesday for seven adults suspected of spray-painting The Bean sculpture at Millennium Park.

Just before midnight, a group of people spray-painted city property in the 300 block of East Randolph, according to Chicago police. Responding officers found seven adults nearby and arrested them in connection with the vandalism.

Police squad cars and a pair of officers were posted in front of the reflective sculpture, also known as Cloud Gate, before dawn on Tuesday. Its stainless steel surface was marred with silver lettering near the bottom of its southwest corner. On the street-level entrance to the park, two benches also bore graffiti that said "35th" in the same shade of paint.

After further investigation Tuesday morning, officers also found the Cancer Survivor Wall in nearby Maggie Daley Park was vandalized.
