7,779 new Covid cases, 56 more deaths

There were 56 more Covid-19 fatalities and 7,779 confirmed new cases on Thursday, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Friday, as the figures continued to improve.

Thursday’s figures did not include 7,893 positive results from antigen tests over the past 24 hours. This would raise the total to 15,672.

This compared with the 59 coronavirus-related fatalities and 8,019 new cases reported on the previous day.

As of Thursday, a total of 75,864 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 77,427 the previous day), including 26,826 in hospitals (down from 26,901). Among the remainder 9,976 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (down from 10,653) and 38,658 in home/community isolation (down from 39,471).

Of those in hospital, 1,277 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (down from 1,353) and 644 dependent on ventilators (down from 673).

Of the seriously ill patients, Bangkok had the most cases at 127, followed by 70 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 58 in Ubon Ratchathani, 46 in Udon Thani and 43 in Suphan Buri.

The 24-hour period also saw 9,286 recovered patients discharged from hospitals.

According to the CCSA, the 56 people who died were aged from one to 98 years and included one foreigner, from Myanmar.

Bangkok reported two more deaths and there were six fatalities in adjacent provinces - Samut Prakan (3), Nakhon Pathom (2) and Pathum Thani (1).

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had 16 deaths - four in Suphan Buri, three each in Nakhon Sawan and Chon Buri, two in Prachuap Khiri Khan and one each in Saraburi, Rayong, Nakhon Nayok and Prachin Buri.

The North reported 14 deaths - in Chiang Mai (5), Phetchabun (4), Phayao (2), Lamphun (1), Sukhothai (1) and Phichit (1).

The Northeast saw 15 more coronavirus-related fatalities - four in Si Sa Ket, three in Nong Bua Lam Phu, two each in Roi Et and Loei and one each in Udon Thani, Kalasin, Nakhon Phanom and Yasothon.

The South had three deaths in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Of the 7,779 new cases on Thursday, 7,761 were in the general population, 16 among prison inmates and two imported, from Norway and the Philippines.

Of the new infections in the general population, 7,731 were confirmed at hospitals and 30 via mass testing.

Bangkok continued to report the most daily cases at 2,643 followed by 292 in Khon Kaen, 280 in Surin, 235 in Chon Buri, 219 in Buri Ram, 216 in Roi Et, 206 in Ubon Ratchathani, 195 in Samut Prakan, 150 in Nonthaburi and 138 in Chachoengsao.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,361,016 Covid-19 cases, including 2,137,581 this year, with 4,255,785 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 29,367 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 7,669 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 598,649 in 24 hours to 519.73 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,961 to 6.28 million.

The United States had the most cases at 84.06 million, up 85,830, and the most deaths at 1.02 million, up 222.
