7,738 test Covid positive in Kerala; toll crosses 30,000

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state witnessed 7,738 positive cases of the 76,043 samples tested in the last 24 hours. Among the new cases detected, 6,491 people have taken the vaccination, 2,734 have taken both doses, and 1,984 have not taken even a single dose.

The total active cases at present are 78,122, of which 8.8% of people are admitted either in hospitals or other treatment centres.

Meanwhile, 56 Covid deaths were confirmed, taking the related death toll in the state to 30,685. At the same time, 5,460 patients have recovered from the disease.

Among the new cases, 7,375 cases have been infected through local spread. The contact source of infection was not traceable for 286.

Ernakulam reported the highest number of cases with 1,298, followed by Thiruvananthapuram (1,089), Thrissur (836), Kozhikode (759).

There are a total of 2,68,223 persons presently under observation in various districts of the state, of which 2,60,318 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres, and 7,905 are in isolation at hospitals.

As per the weekly infection population ratio, 211 wards in 158 local bodies are having a WIPR of more than 10%. In these wards, strict lockdown restrictions have been implemented.
