7,650 new Covid cases, 56 more deaths

There were 56 more Covid-19 fatalities and 7,650 confirmed new cases during the previous 24 hours, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Wednesday.

Tuesday’s figures did not include 9,736 positive results from antigen tests over the past 24 hours. This would raise the total to 17,386.

This compared with the 53 coronavirus-related fatalities and 6,230 new cases reported the previous day.

As of Tuesday, a total of 78,274 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 80,002 the previous day), including 28,343 in hospitals (down from 29,108). Among the remainder 10,510 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (up from 10,374) and 39,072 in home/community isolation (down from 40,157).

Of those in hospital, 1,387 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (down from 1,481) and 690 dependent on ventilators (down from 715).

Of the seriously ill patients, Bangkok had the most cases, 136, followed by 73 in Ubon Ratchathani, 68 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 48 in Phitsanulok and 47 in Chaiyaphum.

The 24-hour period also saw 9,322 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

According to the CCSA, the 56 people who died were aged from 38 to 98 years.

Bangkok eported three moe coronavirus-related deaths and there were eight in adjacent provinces -  Nonthaburi (3), Nakhon Pathom (2), Samut Prakan (2) and Pathum Thani (1).

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had 19 deaths - three in Lop Buri, two each in Saraburi, Chon Buri and Ratchaburi and one each in Uthai Thani, Sing Buri, Samut Songkhram, Ayutthaya, Rayong, Chachoengsao, Trat, Prachin Buri, Kanchanaburi and Suphan Buri.

The North reported seven deaths - two in Chiang Rai and one each in Lamphun, Sukhothai, Phichit, Phitsanulok and Phayao.

The Northeast saw 16 more fatalities - six in Roi Et, three in Sakon Nakhon and one each in Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Loei, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen and Nong Khai.

The South had three deaths - in Nakhon Si Thammarat (2) and Songkhla (1).

There were 7,608 new cases in the general population, 39 among prison inmates and three imported ones.

Of the new infections in the general population, 7,587 were confirmed at hospitals and 21 via mass testing.

Bangkok continued to report the most daily cases at 2,463, followed by 308 in Khon Kaen, 241 in Maha Sarakham, 238 in Ubon Ratchathani, 232 in Buri Ram, 198 in Samut Prakan, 189 in Chon Buri, 178 each in Surin and Roi Et and 167 in Chaiyaphum.

The three imported cases came from the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,345,218 Covid-19 cases, including 2,121,783 this year, with 4,237,692 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 29,252 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 7,554 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 595,297 in 24 hours to 518.44 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,712 to 6.28 million.

The US had the most cases at 83.78 million, up 59,954, and the most deaths at 1.02 million, up 279.
