A new industrial development in north Birmingham has been boosted by a £6 million investment.
The derelict former Steel Plates and Sections site, in Minworth, is being transformed into a new industrial park on the site of a derelict steelworks in north Birmingham.
West Midlands Combined Authority has awarded £6 million in new funding to the £11 million scheme which will have 72,000 sq ft of industrial and trade counter space across 11 units and is expected to create 140 new jobs.
To be called Minworth Industrial Park, it will also bring more than three acres of brownfield land off Forge Lane back into economic use.
West Midlands Mayor Andy Street said: "I am absolutely delighted that we have been able to help unlock yet another scheme that creates local jobs for local people while regenerating brownfield land and protecting the precious greenbelt.
"Despite the pandemic, the combined authority has continued to invest its cash in remediating brownfield land, helping to drive our region's recovery by creating jobs and building high-quality, truly-affordable homes."
Mark Garrity, head of the Birmingham office with Chancerygate which is developing the park, added: "The development will provide highly sought-after, grade A freehold industrial space and is best placed to meet the evolving needs of businesses.
"We are seeing significant interest in units and look forward to completing our work to regenerate the site into a high-quality urban logistics hub, creating jobs and opportunity across the region."
