68-year-old identified as man who died in Arlington Heights fire

Oct. 26--Officials with the Cook County medical examiner's office on Monday identified Wayne Dziubala, 68, as the man who died in an Oct. 6 fatal house fire in Arlington Heights.

His cause of death and the origin of the fire remain under investigation, said Frank Shuftan, a spokesman for County Board President Toni Preckwinkle.

Arlington Heights Police and Fire departments responded to a call about 2 a.m. Oct. 6 with a report of a house fire in the 1600 block of West Waverly Court, with two people trapped inside, Arlington Heights police Cmdr. Nathan Hayes said.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed the fire and found one of the people in the front yard of the home, with another resident found in the backyard, Hayes said.

Dziubala, who was unaccounted for during the fire, was found dead at the scene, officials said.

A 68-year-old female resident was transported to Northwest Community Hospital, where she was treated and released, police said, and a 30-year-old female resident was transported to Loyola University Medical Center.

The fire was contained to the home's hallway and was brought under control in about 10 minutes, officials said.

Officials said the village's forensics investigators are still working with the state fire marshal to determine what ignited the fire.
