GUWAHATI: As many as 67 cadres of the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA), formed in 2019 and operating in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts in Assam, laid down their arms at a programme held at Dhansiripar in Karbi Anglong district on Thursday.
The arms were laid down by the DNLA cadres in the presence of additional director general of police (special branch) Hiren Chandra Nath and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council chief executive member (CEM), Tuliram Ronghang among other officials.
Appreciating the positive development of the rebels returning to the mainstream, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet said: "Committing themselves to the dream of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister of a progressive and peaceful Assam, I am glad to share that 67 cadres of DNLA laid down weapons today at Dhansiripar, Karbi Anglong."
The surrendered DNLA cadres were subsequently taken to a designated camp.
Nath said, " A few members had laid down their arms earlier and a few were there to surrender. They have surrendered today. Their issues will be taken up and they would be rehabilitated."
Ronghang told the media that the return of the cadres to the mainstream by respecting the call of the chief minister for a peaceful state is the best decision of the cadres. "Peace and progress are what we all want now," he added.
