A 63-year-old dentist succumbed to injuries on Thursday after being in the lift at Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Byculla when it collapsed in end-April.
At the time of the accident, Byculla police had registered a case of causing hurt by negligence, but after Arnavaz Havewalla passed away, a case has been registered under section 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code (death due to negligence).
On April 28, Havewalla was with her daughter in the lift at Bhau Daji Lad Museum when it collapsed.
Havewalla suffered a severe pelvic fracture and injuries in her heels.
Both she and her daughter, who also suffered injuries, were rushed to Masina Hospital. Havewalla was admitted to the intensive care unit and later shifted to the ward, where her health was monitored by an orthopaedic and a general physician.
On Thursday, Havewalla succumbed to her injuries in Masina Hospital.
Her daughter has been discharged, said hospital authorities.
“We are investigating the case to find out about the contractor of the lift and its maintenance at the museum to find out the actual cause of its collapse,” said a police officer, who did not wish to be named.
Bhau Daji Lad Museum’s managing trustee and honorary director Tasneem Zakaria Mehta was not available for comment.
