JAIPUR: A 62-year-old man was electrocuted by a 1,100KV high-tension pole in the Bhatta Basti area on Sunday morning. The police identified the victim as one Majid Ahmad, a resident of JP Colony within the Bhatta Basti police station area.
According to the police, the victim had retired after working with civic body. He used to feed pigeons on vacant land after visiting a nearby dargah.
According to assistant sub-inspector, Ramesh Chand, electric current was passing through the pole when Ahmad touched it and died. Police sources said that there was some electric fault in the high-tension wires due to which electricity was passing through the pole and a cement platform underneath since Saturday night. When Ahmad arrived on Sunday morning for his morning stroll, he came in contact with it and died because the area around the pole was wet due to last night's drizzle.
Ahmad's one arm was completely charred in the accident and he had nearly 80% burn injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors. The locals present at the scene informed the Bhatta Basti police station about the incident, and a team was sent to the spot.
The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem at the Kanwatia Hospital. Till late evening, the victim's family had not filed any complaint.
"Every morning he visited a dargah and then went to a nearby land in the Amanishah area to feed pigeons," said a police officer.
