61 drivers pulled over as police carried out checks on Edinburgh's West Approach Road this morning

Roads policing teams had an incredibly busy morning in Edinburgh on Wednesday – pulling over 61 drivers on West Approach Road.

A team from the National Motorcycle Unit were kept with plenty to do as they carried out checks on the busy route which runs from Murrayfield right into the city centre.

Officers say that motorists were stopped for a variety of different reasons. Two provided breath readings indicating they had alcohol in their system, although this was below the legal limit.

Edinburgh Live reported this week how police had been carrying out checks on Craigcrook Road, stopping "numerous" vehicles and charging two with speeding offences.

They said that checks would continue in the coming weeks.

Officers have also been busy working with the DVLA in part of the city in a bid to clamp down on untaxed vehicles. On Monday seven vehicles were either seized or clamped in the north west of the city, and last month a number of vehicles were removed from the streets in Leith.
