60mph red light speeder told police he wanted to put children to bed

A man stopped by police after being seen driving at 60mph and going through a red light told officers he wanted to get home to his children.

Greater Manchester Police stopped a driver after seeing him speeding and going through a red traffic light in Barton Dock Road.

Officers say he was going at up to 60mph.

Police say when the driver was challenged he said he wanted to get home to put his children to bed.

GMPTraffic tweeted: "Driving at speeds up to 60mph and going through red traffic lights isn’t the best idea when #XT58 is behind you.

"Driver stated he just wanted to get home to put his two young children to sleep. Driver reported"

Police say the driver has been reported - meaning he can expect a summons to attend court.
