60-year-old man dies from injuries days after Maida Vale assault; murder probe launched

A 60-year-old man died on Friday in west London, days after he was found with serious injuries following an assault on a busy road in the Maida Vale area.

According to Ham&High, metropolitan Police officers identified the victim as Michalis Kyriacou after discovering him on Chippenham Road at around 2.40 am on May 14 during routine patrol.

The man succumbed to his injuries on Friday. Following his death, his family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers.

A man, believed to have been known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on May 17.

Biniam Tewolde Negash, 36, of Chippenham Road, has been charged with murder. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 18 and was remanded into custody.

The Crown Prosecution Service has also been informed of the development, police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie said, "Our thoughts are with Michalis' family and friends following this tragic news.
