$60,000 in tools: man charged with Telarah thefts

A CESSNOCK Road raid on Tuesday has led police to charge a man with stealing more than $60,000 in tools.

Port Stephens-Hunter police began investigating in December after three break and enter offences in the lead-up to Chrirstmas.

The offences occurred between December 20 and December 23 at a business in Junction Street, Telarah, and resulted in a large amount of equipment and tools taken from the premises.

Police said extensive inquiries led them to raid a Maitland property about 10am on Monday, where they spoke with a 53-year-old man.

"During a subsequent search of the property, officers located and seized a large amount of tools believed to be stolen from the Telarah business," police said in a statement.

The 53-year-old was taken to Maitland police station and charged with two counts of break and enter house steal with a value greater than or equal to $60,000, and one count each of break and enter dwelling with intent to steal and goods suspected stolen in/on premises.

He received conditional bail and is next scheduled to face court in March.
