6 years after it was announced, Marvel fans are convinced this forgotten project won't ever be released

Don Cheadle and Robert Downey Jr.

There have been plenty of Marvel shows and movies that have been announced before quietly disappearing over the years. Now, fans of the MCU think the same may be happening to Armor Wars, the Don Cheadle-led project that was due to focus around Rhodey dealing with the fallout of Stark tech ending up in the wrong hands.

First announced back in December 2020 as a Disney Plus series, Marvel Studios confirmed it would be based on the comic book storyline of the same name. Cheadle was due to return for it following his roles as Rhodey in several MCU movies.

However, in the years since, updates have been few and far between. In 2021, stand-up comedian Yassir Lester was hired to work on the script before Disney decided to rework it into a movie. Not much has been heard since on the project with some fans suggesting that it might have been quietly canceled by the studio.

A Redditor recently posed the question, "Is this thing even still in the works?" suggesting that it might be in the same "development hell" as Blade. Several fans replied, including one viewer who explained it "was one of those things that was never officially canceled, but Marvel just hoped you forgot about."

"It's probably been internally cancelled for quite a while now and I hate it. Don Cheadle deserved better," added a second, while a third commented: "No, they fully botched The Multiverse Saga."

Another theory is that it wouldn't fit into the new reworked Marvel plan that fell into place after the Kang storyline was cut. "At this stage it feels like Armor Wars was someone’s bright idea at a specific point in time and then the big replan took place that saw Kang Dynasty morph into Doomsday," they suggested. "I really doubt that there will even be a place for it in the next phase."

While Armor Wars may no longer be in the picture, there are plenty of Marvel projects on the way, including Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday.
