6-year-old girl put in handcuffs, arrested at Orlando school after tantrum: report

ORLANDO, Fla. _ An Orlando grandmother was horrified to find out her 6-year-old granddaughter was arrested at school Thursday after getting angry and kicking someone, according to a WKMG report.

Meralyn Kirkland's granddaughter, Kaia, was taken to a juvenile detention center and was facing a charge of battery after she had a tantrum Thursday at Lucious and Emma Nixon Elementary charter school, WKMG reported.

The first grader was handcuffed, fingerprinted and had a mugshot taken, WKMG reported.

Kirkland tried explaining that Kaia's behavior was due to her "sleep apnea" but the officer was not placated.

Kaia returned home later that day, but Kirkland is still angry over the incident saying that no 6-year-old should be held in handcuffs, WKMG reported.
