A 6-year-old boy and a woman were killed in a head-on collision in Joliet.

The woman, 27, was driving a sedan near Channahon and Hollywood roads around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday when she veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a pick-up truck, according to Joliet police.

She and the boy, who was riding in the sedan, were taken to Amita St. Joseph Medical Center where they later died, police said.

Two girls, 7 and 12, were also in the car and were taken to Silver Cross Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 48-year-old man driving the pick-up truck was taken to the same hospital but later flown to Loyola Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
