The Baltimore Ravens released their 2019 preseason schedule on Tuesday. While the preseason usually gets a huge eye roll from many fans because of how insignificant the final score can be and how little we typically see the starters, it’s the first live football we’ll see in more than six months.
Even though the preseason isn’t the most exciting football, it has plenty of cool facts you might not know. Here are six things you should know about the Ravens’ preseason schedule in 2019
1) Ravens are undefeated since 2015
Again, it might not be the most meaningful record but beating any team in the NFL is an accomplishment. Going a perfect 13-0 over three seasons is an even bigger note. With four more games this preseason, can Baltimore continue their undefeated streak?
2) Ravens get some unfamiliar foes
Baltimore will face off against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Green Bay Packers this preseason. The Ravens have only seen each team once before in the preseason, beating the Jaguars in 2012 and losing to the Packers in 1996.
Under coach John Harbaugh, Baltimore has gone 3-3 against Jacksonville and 1-2 against Green Bay in the regular season.
3) Battle of the Beltway
Though it isn’t really much of a rivalry anymore, this is the third-consecutive preseason the Ravens have been matched up against the Washington Redskins. It’s also the second-straight season they’ve closed out the preseason against their local rival. It’s also the eighth time Baltimore has faced off against Washington in Harbaugh’s 12 years as the coach.
4) Joint practices
The Ravens will hold joint practices before their preseason games against the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars. This is following a recent trend of Baltimore getting in some training camp practices with their preseason opponent to help blow off steam and test themselves against players their less familiar with.
The Ravens have held joint practices with the Eagles previously and did the same last year with the Los Angeles Rams.
5) Ravens are preseason warriors
Baltimore holds a 60-32 all-time record in the preseason. But they’ve managed to do significantly better under Harbaugh, posting a 33-12 (.733 percent) preseason record over that time. Though that hasn’t always translated to the regular season, it’s an interesting stat to show just how competitive the Ravens like to be, even when the games don’t matter.
6) Limited travel
Baltimore has gotten slammed by the schedule previously but this preseason is a pretty light one. With both away games being relatively local (Philadelphia and Washington), the Ravens don’t have a ton of travel. When mapping out from Baltimore’s Under Armour Performance Center to both stadiums, it’s a total round trip of just 317.2 miles — likely with no planes being involved.
