6 things that stood out in first half of Chargers-Dolphins

The Chargers currently lead the Dolphins 17-10, at the halfway mark.

There have been a few notable takeaways from the first half of the Week 4 matchup.

  • Generating more pressure was among the things the Chargers needed to do a better job at this weekend, but they have shown no signs of improvement in that department. Quarterback Josh Rosen has looked awfully comfortable in the pocket, and he’s been distributing the ball out quickly.
  • The secondary is still worrisome. Cornerback Desmond King got beat badly for a 34-yard touchdown early on, and there have been other instances of the corners struggling to keep their man at bay.
  • The Dolphins have only ran for 43 yards on 11 carries, but the Chargers rush defense is falling victim to being late to the ball carrier and missed tackles in open space again.
  • The Chargers have been penalized eight times for 70 yards, but there have been a few questionable calls. Among them is wide receiver Keenan Allen’s offensive pass interference. The defensive back guarding Allen had him wrapped up first, but they felt like he was the first one to initiate contact.
  • We knew the wide receiver room would be thin coming into this game, and were curious to see who would step up. Geremy Davis, tight end Lance Kendricks and running back Austin Ekeler have done a nice job filling in as reliable targets for quarterback Philip Rivers outside of Allen.
  • Outside a couple bone-headed penalties, the offensive line has fared well today. Rivers has yet to be sacked today.
