A huge trade between the Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers on Friday — and then the Dolphins and Eagles, CHAOS!!! — led every NFL fan to come to the same conclusion: the Niners are more than likely taking a quarterback and that means the end of the Jimmy Garoppolo era in the Bay.
Or … does it?
There are two reports that indicate the Niners might actually keep Jimmy G. There’s ESPN’s Adam Schefter: “49ers’ source today: ‘Jimmy is here to stay. He’s our guy this year.'”
Hmm. OK. Emphasis, I guess, on “this year.”
And then there’s this from The Athletic’s Michael Lombardi:
49ers say they are committed to carrying Jimmy G, redshirt their drafted QB, and keep winning with their current roster. It is believable.
