The Philadelphia Eagles dream scenario at defensive tackle is over after only one game after the team announced that Malik Jackson suffered a season-ending foot injury. Eagles coach Doug Pederson said former Pro Bowl defensive tackle suffered a Lisfranc injury that will require surgery.
With Jackson sidelined, here are seven options the Eagles could consider to replace the star defensive tackle.
Timmy Jernigan
Jernigan could be the perfect complement to Fletcher Cox because of his awesome power, and the ability to reset the line of scrimmage.
Hassan Ridgeway
The 4th year defensive tackle could see an increase in reps after the Eagles traded a seventh-round pick to acquire Ridgeway in April.
Anthony Rush
Cut by the Raiders at the end of the preseason, Rush is currently on Oakland’s practice squad and could be a good addition for the Eagles. The 6-4, 340-pound Rush had a great preseason for the Raiders, but GM Mike Mayock felt he was too raw and at a crowded position, he was waived.
Akeem Spence
Spence was cut by the Dolphins at the end of the preseason. Spence started all 16 games for the Dolphins last season and during his NFL career, Spence has played in 88 games with 57 starts, racking up 177 tackles (106 solos), 10.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries
Muhammad Wilkerson
The New Jersey native missed most of his last season with the Packers due to injury, but over a three year period, he was one of the best 3-4 defensive ends in the NFL. A big, strong, physical player, Wilkerson could play the interior or allow Vinny Curry to slide down as well.
Benny Logan
Seldomly used in Tennessee, Logan is really good as a run plugger and the former Eagle could be an option.
