“Keep the walkway and entryway clear of extension cords, decorations and debris,” said Angi Orbann of Travelers Insurance, noting that trick-or-treaters may not be familiar with your property. “It’s important to walk around your home’s exterior and minimize hazards so visitors can safely navigate.”

2. Light the Way
You can use holiday lighting to illuminate a clear path, making it even safer for trick-or-treaters. A big spotlight in your front yard signals to trick-or-treaters that you’re available to participate in the fun and also improves safety.
3. Install Smart-Home Cameras and Motion-Sensing Light
To prevent theft if you’re not at home, consider installing motion-detecting lights and smart-home cameras. Often, cameras alone will deter vandals.

Don’t leave belongings, like a purse or backpack, on your vehicle’s seat where they’re visible and could tempt a thief to break your car window.
