6 hurt in Chicago shootings

May 05--At least six people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Wednesday afternoon, police said.

At 1:20 a.m. Thursday, someone in a vehicle began shooting at a white SUV in the 3000 block of West 60th Street. At least three bullets hit the back of the SUV, and a 26-year-old woman inside was shot in the back.

The SUV's driver, a man in a sweatshirt with "Chicago" across the chest, drove to 59th Street and South St. Louis Avenue, where the SUV came to rest in the parking lot of a taqueria. An ambulance took the woman to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and her condition was stabilized.

The driver stayed in the parking lot, shivering in the sharp wind, until a sergeant invited him to warm up in his squadrol.

At 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg in West Humboldt Park. He was leaving a business in the 4200 block of West Division Street when he heard gunfire and felt pain to his leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital and his condition was stabilized.

About 6:10 p.m. a 21-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the hip when he was attacked in the 7400 block of South Aberdeen Street in Englewood, police said. The man was walking in the area when a vehicle pulled up and someone fired shots, hitting him. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.

About 6 p.m. an 18-year-old man was shot in the 5700 block of West Augusta Boulevard in Austin, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman. The man was walking in the area when a male attacker got out of a vehicle and fired shots, hitting the man in the back and leg. The attacker then got back into the vehicle and fled. The man was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where he was in serious condition.

A suspect was identified and is being questioned by police, Sweeney said.

About 4 p.m. a 20-year-old man being shot in the leg in the 10400 block of South Avenue G in the East Side neighborhood, Sweeney said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized. Police are investigating whether the man accidentally shot himself.

About 1:30 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the Brighton Park neighborhood. He was shot in the thigh in the 3900 block of South Archer Avenue and went to Holy Cross Hospital. He later was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital.
