6 free agents the Cardinals should re-sign for 2020

The Arizona Cardinals have a number of their own players who are scheduled to become free agents, either restricted or unrestricted. They already have re-signed receiver Larry Fitzgerald and left tackle D.J. Humphries.

Who are the players they should re-sign?

RB Kenyan Drake

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

The Cardinals have made it clear they want him back. He was the biggest playmaker on offense outside of Kyler Murray last season. He is asking for a lot. They should bring him back but probably not for more than the suggested three years and $15 million they want to give him.

K Zane Gonzalez

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Gonzalez is set to become a restricted free agent. The Cardinals should use an original round tender to keep him around for another season and allow him to prove he can be as consistent as he was in 2019.

DL Rodney Gunter

Cardinals Training Camp

Gunter ended the season on injured reserve but has been solid overall. He had his best season in a 4-3 defense in 2018 but is more than adequate as a player to bring back.

DL Zach Kerr

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Kerr was quite solid after getting signed off the street last season. He won’t be too expensive and should be a solid rotational player.

OL Max Garcia

Garcia spent half the season unable to play recovering from a torn ACL. He was active the final seven games. He would be good to have as the veteran interior lineman off the bench. He can play any of the three interior positions and as been a starter. If he is willing to come back at $2 million or less, bring him back.

The Cardinals will not likely target a starting safety in free agency. They will want someone with playing experience to come off the bench who can also play special teams. Banjo is that guy. He is a standout special teams player and has played well in limited defensive snaps over his career. Since he is already familiar with the defensive system, he would be a good player to keep around as Jalen and Deionte Thompson both hopefully develop.
