If you are looking for some exciting destinations to fill out your fall retirement calendar, look no further than the following list of high-quality and affordable vacation spots to hit in the coming months.

Here are some top bucket list vacations to check off this fall.

Asheville, North Carolina

Why go: This gem of the Appalachian Mountains offers a mix of scenic views and a quirky art scene. For those seeking an elevated experience, consider checking out the Biltmore’s expansive grounds. If you time it right, you might enjoy watching the leaves’ fiery fall colors.

Accommodations: Depending on what you are looking for in a hotel, you might pay anywhere from less than $100 per night to several hundred, making it a destination accessible for many price points.

Attractions: The Biltmore draws a crowd, and it is a delightful walk through history. But its entrance price is typically over $100. If you are looking for a more affordable option, consider hiking in the area or checking out the vibrant community of breweries, eateries, and galleries in the downtown area.

Boone, North Carolina

Why go: If you are looking for a slightly more scenic mountain getaway, Boone offers a wonderful opportunity in North Carolina. Fall leaves and endless outdoor activities could make this an outstanding destination for retirees.

Accommodations: You’ll typically pay around $100 to $150 per night for a hotel room in Boone. But if you are looking for a luxury place, expect to pay more.

Attractions: Boone offers plenty of sightseeing for leaf-peepers. If you enjoy getting outside, you’ll find many trails to explore. Plus, a large array of antique shops could keep anyone happily hunting for hours.

Pasa Robles, California

Why go: This California hotspot offers a Napa Valley vibe, without the steep price point. In Pasa Robles, you’ll find beautiful vineyards and seemingly endless wineries, all tucked into a picturesque coastal setting.

Accommodations: You’ll likely pay between $150 and $300 per night for a stay in Pasa Robles. But plan on paying more if you want a boutique hotel experience.

Attractions: Visitors can enjoy the fruits of the area, literally, with plenty of wine tasting options. If possible, opt to visit on a weekday to potentially save on your vineyard visits.

Sedona, Arizona

Why go: Sedona is a desert oasis packed with plenty of outstanding restaurants and a wellness scene. Personally, I’ve loved visiting in the fall because the weather is just right for hiking. Unlike in the summer, the cooler fall temperatures give you more freedom to get outside and explore during the day. And there’s no shortage of things to explore.

Accommodations: Expect to pay between $150 to $350 per night for a room. If you are hoping for a wellness boutique, expect to pay a bit more.

Attractions: If you want to go for a wellness vacation without the price tag, opt for getting a day pass at a high-end spa instead of forking over more for a resort package. For those planning to get outside, come prepared to be amazed by Sedona’s natural beauty and ample hiking trails.

Jacksonville, Florida

Why go: If you are looking for a beach vacation in the fall, Jacksonville offers a worthwhile opportunity. You’ll find beautiful beaches and affordable lodging opportunities. In addition to the beach, you’ll find a river walk along the St. John’s River with a local feel.

Accommodations: Travelers often pay between $80 and $150 per night for lodging.

Attractions: You’ll find plenty of beachgoing opportunities. But come prepared to pay for parking; sometimes having some spare change or single dollars helps when finding a spot. Many enjoy biking and shelling on this beach, so bring what you’ll need to enjoy the day.

New Orleans

Why go: You’ll know what it means to miss New Orleans after your first visit. The city is known for unparalleled food experiences, which don’t end in the French Quarter. If you have been craving a culinary getaway, it’s hard to go wrong with “NOLA”.

Accommodations: You may spend around $100 to $200 per night for a room in New Orleans. If you want to stay in the most popular areas, like the French Quarter, plan to pay a bit more for the location.

Attractions: If you want to stick to a budget, consider staying outside of the French Quarter. You’ll be able to keep your costs lower and easily get downtown with a streetcar ride. Beyond the rich food scene, you’ll find cultural hotspots, like the National WWII Museum, which has a senior discount available.
