6 coronavirus cases confirmed at North Side private school Lycée Français de Chicago

Six coronavirus cases were confirmed this week at a North Side private school, all apparently stemming from a fundraiser earlier this month that included an attendee who later tested positive.

No students are among the six cases, according to updates from officials at Lycée Français de Chicago, a bilingual French international school in Ravenswood.

The Chicago Department of Public Health contacted school officials a week after the March 7 fundraiser at Morgan Manufacturing, 401 N. Morgan St., to let them know of a positive case, a letter to the school community said.

The adult didn’t show any symptoms and the rest of the attendees were deemed to be “low risk” for contracting the virus. Everyone who attended the gathering was advised to practice social distancing until this coming Sunday.

Since then, however, five more cases have been confirmed, including parents and staff.

”All parts of our adult community have been touched: parents, staff and other Soirée attendees,” wrote school president Eric Veteau.

Lycée Français de Chicago serves more than 700 pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students, primarily in the International Baccalaureate or French Baccalauréat programs.
