The Chiefs coaches and scouting department descended upon Indianapolis for a multi-day endeavor to find players to add to their team. They poked, prodded, and probed all of the prospects at the combine in hopes of finding greatness. Here’s six draft prospects who’ve been linked to the Chiefs ahead of the 2019 NFL draft, who also stood out during the 2019 NFL combine.

Taylor Rapp S Washington
Taylor Rapp answered a lot of questions at the 2019 NFL combine. First his weigh-in at 5 feet 11 3/4 inches and 208 pounds is a 1/4 inch shorter and two pounds lighter than his listed weight at Washington. That’s always good when you measure in at your listed size.
While Rapp avoided running the 40-yard dash, he turned in the top Short Shuttle time for safeties at 3.99 seconds flat. He also had the best 60-yard Shuttle and a top-3 score in the 3-Cone drill. Rapp did about as well as you could possibly do at the combine without doing one of the top drills. He looked quick good in the backpedal hip turn on-field portion, which you can check out below.

Juan Thornhill S Virginia
Juan Thornhill was one of the most explosive athletes of the day for the safety position. He jumped out of the Lucas Oil Stadium with a 44.0 inch vertical jump. He also led the safety group with a 141.0 inch broad jump. These are numbers that you’d expect from a 3-time state basketball champion.
Thornhill neglected to run the 3-Cone or either shuttle drill, but he did post 21 repetitions of 225 on the bench press, and he ran a 4.42 40-yard dash. His on-field testing was also about as smooth as it could possibly be. Looking at both the workout an drill numbers, he’ll certainly get recognition for his performance. Teams should have him rising up draft boards.

Trayvon Mullen CB Clemson
The cornerbacks overall weren’t the most impressive group at the combine. Many of the top ranked folks disappointed, but that second tier of players answered some questions.
Trayvon Mullen ran a 4.46 40-yard dash. It was good for 11th in his group. He didn’t do many other drills on the day, only a 34.5 inch vertical and 123.0 inch broad jump. During his on-field drills he showed a level fluidity and movement skills that were a big question mark coming into the combine. It was the type of performance that could easily vault him into the first round.

Amani Oruwariye CB Penn State
Amani Oruwariye ran faster than most folks expected him to run at the 2019 NFL combine. He’s been a fringe first round prospect for a while now and I think he’s still teetering that line. With a 4.47s 40-yard dash many teams are going back to take a look at the tape and double check their evaluation.
Most of Oruwariye’s other scores were ordinary, but he did tie for sixth in the 3-Cone drill and ranked thirteenth in the Short Shuttle. The big thing that really worked to Oruwariye’s advantage was his on-field workout. He had a perfect gauntlet and he displayed excellent ball skills in all of his drills. From hands to tracking, Oruwariye might have the best ball skills of any corner in this class.

Rock Ya-Sin CB Temple
Rock Ya-Sin’s combine was ordinary when you look at his numbers. The most exceptional thing he did was 18 reps on the bench press which tied for second place. Ya-Sin’s drills on the field really helped his day overall though. He was able to high point the football in transition. He looked really fluid and fast during his drills.
Another underrated portion of Ya-Sin’s combine was his demeanor with the media. He was natural and comfortable talking to the press.
If he handled interviews the same way, expect teams to really like the idea of adding this young man to their team.

Darrell Henderson RB Memphis
A favorite of Chiefs Kingdom, Darrell Henderson, blew away the workouts and on-field portion of the combine. He tied for the sixth-best in both the 40-yard dash (4.49s) and bench press (22). He also had the eighth ranked broad jump. Unfortunately, Henderson suffered an injury while running the 40-yard dash and was unable to participate in on-field drills. Luckily for Henderson he managed to leave an impression with his scores.
Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar thinks that Henderson has a chance to be the next Kareem Hunt, but without all the baggage. If that’s truly the case they should be all over this player.
