6 CB’s the Eagles could have interest in adding to the roster

The Philadelphia Eagles are in desperate need of help at the cornerback position after Kirk Cousins and the Vikings absolutely dominated the Birds through the air on Sunday. Cousins had four touchdowns through the air, while Stefon Diggs accounted for three by himself. The Eagles are set to get back Ronald Darby, Jalen Mills, and Cre’Von LeBlanc, but it still may not be enough.

With the Eagles hurting badly at cornerback, here are six players the Birds could consider adding to the roster.

1. Jalen Ramsey

The Eagles are interested in Ramsey despite the Jaguars reportedly seeking two first-round picks. The Eagles’ pass rush is not what the organization expected entering the season and Jim Schwartz’s defense is coming off a game in which they were gashed by Kirk Cousins for over 300 yards and four touchdowns. Ramsey would allow Schwartz to get more creative with his coverages and schemes while giving the Eagles the one player who can get a stop when the game is on the line.

2. Patrick Peterson

Peterson like Howard wouldn’t come cheap ($14M) and the Cardinals have previously made it known that he’s not available. Peterson is returning from a suspension and with the Cardinals rebuilding, could Howie Roseman drop the necessary assets in Cliff Kingsbury’s lap to facilitate a trade?

3. Xavien Howard

Howard is expensive at about $15 million per season, but he’d definitely come cheaper than Ramsey would. Howard missed his first game of the season on Sunday against the Redskins, but the Pro Bowler shouldn’t be out much longer. Howard would have familiarity with the Eagles schemes as Jim Schwartz’s defensive assistant Matt Burke was his defensive coordinator for two seasons in Miami. Howard, a former second-round pick of the Dolphins, led the NFL with seven interceptions last season and has amassed 11 since 2017, with 25 passes defended.

4. Chris Harris Jr.

The 31-year-old star is set to become a free agent, and with the Broncos set to miss the playoffs again, Harris would make perfect sense for the desperate Eagles. Harris is due $12 million this season and the Eagles could afford to bring him back simply by letting Ronald Darby walk. In 12 games with the Broncos last season, Harris racked up 68 tackles, three interceptions, and deflected ten passes. In 2018, Pro Football Focus graded Harris out with an impressive 85.5 and he’d be a great plan-b to Peterson and Ramsey.

5. Logan Ryan

The Titans are struggling this season and with Ryan set to test free agency, a change of venue could be in the works. Ryan is in the final year of a $30 million deal with the Titans and could be a nice addition to the Eagles roster. Ryan is great in coverage and excels in blitz packages as well.

6. Eli Apple

The former Giants 10th overall pick has found a home in New Orleans as he’s set to test free agency in the offseason. He’s currently one of the highest-graded cornerbacks in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus. Last season, Apple intercepted a pair of passes and was credited with nine passes defended in 10 games with New Orleans.
