6-car crash on I-90 leaves woman in critical condition

A six-car crash Sunday on I-90 left nine people injured — one in critical condition, authorities said.

About 12:30 a.m. officers responded to reports of a major car accident on the Kennedy Expressway in the southbound lanes near Harlem Avenue, according to Illinois State police.

Police said that Daniel Clark, 54, was driving an orange tractor southbound on I-90 near Harlem Avenue when he struck several cars that were stopped because of traffic.

The impact caused a chain-reaction crash. Nine people were taken to three area hospitals for treatment, and one woman, 23, is in critical condition, police said.

All traffic was diverted at Cumberland Avenue for the investigation but lanes reopened about 7:15 a.m.

Clark was cited by Illinois State police for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. Alcohol and drugs are not being considered a contributing factor to the crash at this time, police said.

State police are continuing to investigate the crash.
