6 AFC West stories from last week for Chiefs fans to know

Another week of the 2020 NFL offseason has come and gone. It’s time to take a peek at the rest of the AFC West to see what has been happening with the Kansas City Chiefs’ division rivals. Below you’ll find some of the top stories of the past week for the Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.

Jerry Jeudy signs 4-year deal with Broncos

“The four-year deal is worth $15.2 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Jeudy’s contract is expected to have a signing bonus of $8,609,424, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. His signing bonus will be prorated over the four years of his contract for salary cap purposes.”

The Broncos make it official signing their 2020 first-round draft pick to a 4-year deal. He will play a big part in Denver’s success for years to come as they build around Drew Lock and try to dethrone the Chiefs as AFC West Champions.

Broncos ranked No.24 in ESPN’s future power ranking

“The Broncos are the lowest-ranked team in the AFC West, behind the Kansas City Chiefs (No. 2), Los Angeles Chargers (No. 17) and Las Vegas Raiders (No. 19). Denver is ranked No. 24 out of 32 teams.”

A positive sign for Chiefs fans as the Broncos ranked last among AFC West teams in a future power ranking. That could change quickly if Drew Lock and the young offense have a strong season, but at least Kansas City has a bright future getting ranked at No. 2.

View HBO trailer for Hard Knocks featuring Chargers, Rams

“HBO released the preview trailer on Tuesday for the upcoming season of Hard Knocks that will feature the Chargers and Rams, as training camp is set to get underway next week.”

After getting inside look of the Raiders last season, Chiefs fans will be able to see what goes on inside the Chargers training camp on Hard Knocks. No preseason means this will be the only look at the Chargers before the start of the season.

Chargers head coach discusses quarterback battle

“The Chargers begin training camp next week. There will be plenty of storylines to monitor, but the one that will get the majority of the attention is the quarterback battle between Tyrod Taylor and rookie Justin Herbert.”

The quarterback battle in Los Angeles is one of the more interesting storylines in the AFC West. It will be interesting who gets the starting job when the season begins, but with no preseason to get Herbert prepared for the speed of the NFL it’s expected that Taylor will be the starting quarterback to start the season.

Mark Davis believes Henry Ruggs III is a complete player

“When the Raiders selected Henry Ruggs over the likes of CeeDee Lamb and Jerry Jeudy, there was a belief among many that the team passed on complete receivers in favor of speed. While it is true that Lamb and Jeudy out-produced Ruggs in college, that doesn’t mean he isn’t a well-rounded player.

“In a recent interview with Mark Davis, Vic Tafur of The Athletic asked the team’s owner about their rookie receiver. Davis couldn’t stop glowing about the former Alabama star”

It’s clear the Raiders are trying to imitate the speed the Chiefs have at wide receiver selecting Ruggs with their first pick in the 2020 NFL draft. Some criticized for not taking the more accomplished and more rounded wide receivers Jeudy or Lamb at No.12, but owner Mark Davis believes that Ruggs is a complete receiver.

Raiders defensive line ranked as fifth-worst in NFL by Pro Football Focus

“Heading into the 2020 season, the Raiders do appear to have more talent on their defensive line than last year. However, Pro Football Focus isn’t as optimistic about the unit, ranking them as the fifth-worst group in the NFL.”

The Raiders’ defensive line is not getting much respect this offseason being ranked near the bottom of all NFL teams. It will be interesting to see if Maxx Crosby and Clelin Ferrell, who both had success their rookie seasons, prove their doubters wrong to show they can be a top defensive line group.
