Cryptocurrency company Tech Bureau, Corp. said Thursday that 6.7 billion yen (about 60 million dollars) worth of three virtual currencies, including Bitcoin, had been lost due to the hacking of its exchange.
The Financial Services Agency on Tuesday ordered the Osaka-based company to submit a report and conduct a probe based on the revised Payment Services Law. The agency intends to carry out an on-site inspection after receiving a specific report as early as Thursday afternoon.
The Osaka prefectural police have launched an investigation into the incident, on suspicion of a violation of the Law on the Prohibition of Unauthorized Computer Access.
Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Monacoin have been lost from the exchange. Currencies worth about 4.5 billion yen were assets belonging to customers, while the remaining 2.2 billion yen was the company's assets.
Tech Bureau plans to compensate the losses. It did not make public the number of customers affected by the unauthorized access.
