A family in Russia was hit with tragedy when a 21-day-old newborn was thrown out of an apartment and fell 40 feet to the concrete road — where the child sadly died. And now new reports are coming in that it might have been her elder 5-year-old sister who threw her out in a fit of jealousy.
The Russian Investigative Committee has not confirmed the legitimacy of any speculation, but they have taken the opportunity to warn parents to ensure they stay vigilant with their kids. Sadly, sometimes even taking your eyes off a child at a certain age could prove fatal — not just to violence but also to drowning and other natural calamities.
According to The Sun, Russian legal authorities have opened criminal investigations on the parents to find an explanation for why the 5-year-old and the newborn sister were left unattended to the extent that this tragedy could happen. Potentially, the mother could face jail time.
Whenever Russia makes it into the news it’s usually for political reasons, but this was one of those instances that showed the similarity of the human experience. Not too long ago, there was also a slightly similar case in Italy where a man trying to commit suicide ended up falling on another person and killing them. And in that case in Italy, the overwhelming story that came from the people at the scene was just how eerie the sight of the tragedy was.
The case was similar in Russia — witnesses reportedly went weak to their knees seeing the horrific sight left by the newborn on the concrete in Vasilyevo, Russia. Reportedly, the father of the girls was off at work, and the mother made the fatal mistake of leaving her children home alone as she went to visit a friend. The current general understanding right now is that this was yet another case of a neglectful parent.
Investigations are still underway, and there are no clear-cut explanations, but a local source from Vasilyevo said, “The older girl was upset that there was another child in the flat, and out of jealousy, she threw the infant out of the window.”
The family will now certainly have to contend with living with trauma. And that’s usually the problem when it comes to issues that concern neglect and family violence. Especially in a case like this, which involves a 5-year-old who does not yet have any idea what it means to take a life away. Later on in life, when she does understand what happened in their family home, she will also need to find a way to contend with the guilt.
If the mother is truly guilty of leaving her children unattended, it is very likely that she will also face whatever legal repercussions that will attract.
