£5m statement HQ moves closer for engineering giant On Line Group

Next month should see a construction contract issued for the new multi-million pound headquarters of On Line Group.

The iconic building, on neighbouring land to the current Immingham base, has been brought forward by Grimsby’s ID Architecture, obtaining planning permission in February.

With conditions now met and discharged, full detailed design has been completed between both parties, with tenders out and anticipated back by the end of the month.

James Lockwood, director and architect at ID, said: “We were approached by On Line who liked the idea of working with a local practice, which is always a nice.

“We worked with them, looking through different concepts to meet the brief, in order to create a prominent headquarters building in the heart of Immingham.

"It is a very refreshing project, and the team were keen to push the creative edge to reflect what their business is about. It was a great brief, a really good firm to be working with, which enabled us to maintain a tight programme to get it in for planning.”

Described as a £5 million statement of intent when brought forward by the South Humber Bank engineering giant, it is part of the strategy to become an established national contractor of choice across heavy industry.

More than 200 staff are now employed by the technical consultancy specialist, now involved in works on $1 billion of capital infrastructure projects across the UK.

Speaking when it was unveiled at the turn of the year, On Line’s managing director Brendan Conlan said: “It is a statement to say we are here, we are making an investment to keep engineering design and project management within Humberside at a time when for many it is being offshored.

“We want to make On Line a national engineering and design business. I have wanted to build a new office since I came here three and a half years ago. We have had three-and-a-half years of growth, double digit growth, and have trebled the turnover of the consultancy. Last year was phenomenal, and this year will have increased turnover again on the back of a phenomenal year again.”

The company has operated for more than 35 years, building with the oil refineries and diversifying from there.
