There were 59 newly confirmed coronavirus infections in Tokyo on Wednesday. It is the first time since June 30, which had 54 cases, that the daily number of infections has fallen below 60.
Wednesday is the third consecutive day that the daily figure has been below 100, but the Tokyo metropolitan government is asking residents to remain on alert. It is thought that the low numbers are probably because of the four-day holiday weekend, in which fewer people were undergoing medical exams and fewer tests were being conducted.
