58 Liverpool kids who ruled World Book Day 2021

Kids all over Merseyside celebrated World Book Day and although the majority of schoolchildren are still at home that didn't stop them from joining in with the occasion.

Once more, children embraced the characters of their favourite books and comics to pull together some fantastic costumes.

This year was a little different as many children remain at home due to lockdown.

Schools are set to reopen next Monday, March 8, but even though some kids are still being homeschooled, lots were still taking part in World Book Day today (Thursday, March 4).

Families, including both children and parents, are known to go all out for the big day which aims to celebrate literature, stories and reading.

The annual event sees schoolchildren from Liverpool, Wirral and beyond get dressed up as their favourite characters from books, nursery rhymes and fairy tales.

Every year, the ECHO is inundated with your pictures of your children dressed up in their amazing costumes including Harry Potter, The Gruffalo and there's even been a few more topical outfits in recent years including Donald Trump and Mrs Hinch.

This year was no exception, just check out our gallery above.

We're sorry we couldn't include everyone who submitted pictures but thank you so much for sending them.
