58% get at least single Covid dose, tally is 34 lakh across Prayagraj

PRAYAGRAJ: With Sangam city accomplishing a major milestone in Covid-19 vaccination and over 34 lakh doses administered across the district so far, nearly 58% of the city's total targeted recipients (45.16 lakh) have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccines, whereas around 17% has got both doses.

In terms of the population between 18 and 45 years - for whom vaccines are currently being administered across the district - as many as 21,09,917 doses, including 16,94,572 of first dose and 4,15,345 of the second dose were given to them, while 7,50,158 doses including 5,58,950 of first dose and 1,91,208 of the second dose were also administered to recipients aged between 45 and 60 years.

The figures revealed that as many as 4,48,679 jabs including 3,26,208 of the first dose and 1,22,471 of the second dose were also given to people aged above 60 years in Sangam city.

Moreover, as many as 59,539 doses including 34,209 of the first dose and 25,330 of the second dose were also given to healthcare workers. While 69,833 doses, including 41,650 of first dose and 28,183 of the second dose were also given to front line workers in the city so far.

Till October 24, a total of 34,38,126 doses, including 26,55,589 of the first dose and 7,82,537 of the second dose were given to all eligible recipients in the city so far. District immunization officer and Additional chief medical officer (ACMO) Dr Teerath Lal told TOI, "Out of total 34.38 lakh doses have been given so far, over 21 lakh doses were given to youngsters aged between 18 to 45 years, which was three times from the people aged between 45 and 60 years."

He further added that over 62% and 23% of people, including those aged between 18-45 years, and people aged over 45 years respectively were given jabs so far in the district. Moreover, efforts are also underway to cover cent percent of target recipients at the earliest.

ACMO, meanwhile, said, " With 59 percent of the targeted recipients taking the first dose, the number of recipients who have been administered the first dose stands at 26,55,589 recipients. He added that we have set a target of immunizing around 45.16 lakh recipients of all age groups, including 33 lakh recipients aged between 18-44 years and 12.10 lakh above 45 years."

With improved supplies, the pace of vaccination has also intensified , particularly since the last week of August. Daily average vaccinations have improved in October month and on average, over 35,000 jabs were given daily. And, this was aptly proved that over 6.86 lakh doses were given in just 24 days of this month against a total of 9.39 lakh given jabs in the month of September.

Officials, however, point out that recipients of all age groups, particularly youngsters are making moves towards Covid-19 vaccination centres to get inoculated. However, there is a strong need to encourage rural based aged people, particularly women to get jabs.
