57 Years Later, Cher's '60s Living Room Is Still The Blueprint For Timeless Mid-Century Style Featuring Antique Furniture, Art, and Balanced Neutrals

Cher and sonny in black and white.

The subtle curves, dark woods, and eclectic warmth of mid-century modern homes have a particular appeal in 2025. This era's characterful furnishings feel grounded in today's chaotic melange of fast furniture and built-for-Instagram spaces. Luckily for those seeking inspiration, there is a long precedent of the world's chicest people employing mid-century style to create storied interiors.

Cher's Los Angeles home with Sonny Bono in the 1960s is an example that we return to year after year.

A 1968 photo shoot shows how the couple turned their living room into a beautifully welcoming space using dark wood furniture, art, and balanced neutrals. Not only does it shed light on the '60s trends making a comeback in 2026, but it also proves that the interiors from this period will never go out of style.

Sonny and Cher's living room has one cream wall and one beige wall, each outfitted with dark art prints that draw the eye upwards. The desk and chair are made of dark-stained wood, a perfect contrast to their white lamp shade. An antique rotary phone brings interest to the surface, and I love the idea of using a vintage-style telephone like this one from Wayfair as a tabletop decor to emulate the look.

Recreate Cher's Look at Home

If you are hoping to embrace Sonny and Cher's look in your own home, you're in luck. It's slated as a major interior design trend for 2026.

Marie Goodwin, head designer at decorative fabric specialist Prestigious Textiles, explains: 'Mid-century modern is set to have its moment as we move into 2026. From block patterns and geometrics to sleek furniture and neutral colorways, blending function and form in this way brings a sense of simplicity and charm to any home.'

Mid-century modern homes are among the easiest to customize, as long as you stick to the central tenets of the design style and then add your personality on top of it. Marie advises: 'To achieve the look, choose a grounded color palette, accent the space with curved furniture, and don’t be afraid to embrace impactful prints and bold colours when choosing soft furnishings.'

Cher's home in the '60s demonstrates that design from the past can be just as predictive of what's to come as current design. The beautiful space shows that high-quality furnishings, art, and neutrals will always be in style.
