57-year-old woman is caught with knife for second time

A mum must get help after being caught with a knife for the second time.

Janet Burrows, 57, admitted the latest offence at Nottingham Crown Court, where she was ordered to get treatment for alcohol troubles and attend a probation course.

She was given an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and has been in custody since the incident on August 2.

Judge James Sampson told her: "Until recently, you have lived a completely blameless life. Quite clearly you have a problem with alcohol.

"You need help more than you need punishment. If you don't comply, you go back to prison. Good luck."

She replied: "Thanks, OK."

Kevin Jones, prosecuting, said that police were called out and arrested Burrows of Lime Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

"Officers spoke to her over some sort of incident at home. Her son contacted the police.

"She said she had a blade in her bag," said Mr Jones. It was found when police looked into it.

Burrows had a criminal conviction for having a blade, leaving her liable to a minimum term of six months custody, added Mr Jones.

She pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article in August. A probation report was prepared for the judge.

Felicity Campbell, mitigating, said that Burrows had already spent 14 weeks in custody awaiting sentence.

"There has been a psychological report and she has had time to reflect. She is ready to access help," added Miss Campbell.
