The government has today released the most up-to-date list of surnames for estates that are still waiting to be claimed.
The list includes 57 names with connections to Liverpool and Wirral.
This means some lucky families could be unaware they're sitting on a small fortune this Christmas.

Millions of pounds of unclaimed inheritance could be waiting to be collected across Merseyside, and if you recognise any of these names then you could be in luck.
When people die without making a will, they leave behind everything they owned - whether it’s money, property, business or cars.
If no one comes forward to claim it then the money could disappear into the government’s accounts.
These records go back years - and include some popular Liverpool surnames, as well as some of the information held about the deceased.
The Treasury keeps a list of all the unclaimed assets on their records, and a significant number of neglected estates have links to Merseyside.

A quick search of the list, which includes a staggering 7,620 names, reveals 57 names where the place of birth or place of death are linked to Liverpool and Wirral specifically.
Details of the value of each estate haven’t been published, but if you recognise any of the names on the list you could be in for a significant windfall.
How can I collect an unclaimed estate?
There is a 30 year time limit for any estate to be claimed after the death of the person who leaves it behind.
To make a claim you have to be ‘entitled’ to claim the estate by being related to the person who died.
Once you have established if you are able to make a claim all you need to do send a family tree that shows how you are related to the person whose estate you are trying to claim.

Who is entitled to collect an unclaimed estate?
If a person dies without leaving a will the following people are entitled to claim the estate:
- Husband, wife or civil partner
- Children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and so on
- Mother or father
- Brothers or sisters who share both the same mother and father, or their children (nieces and nephews)
- Half brothers or sisters or their children
- Uncles and aunts or their children (first cousins or their descendants)
