The Tokyo metropolitan government said on Tuesday that it has confirmed 563 new cases of the novel coronavirus in Tokyo, up 171 cases from the previous day and exceeding 500 for the first time in two days.
The number of newly infected people who are 65 or older was 65, and the number of those in serious condition increased by one from the previous day to 64.
Meanwhile, Hyogo Prefecture said on the day that it confirmed 190 new cases of the infectious disease, a record single-day number of new cases, surpassing 184 cases confirmed on Nov. 26.
