55-year-old man arrested for raping 4-year-old girl in Koriya

RAIPUR: A 55-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a 4-year-old girl in Koriya distict.

The incident took place in Chirmiri region of Koriya district on Wednesday evening and police arrested the accused within 24 hours of the report lodged.

The girl was at her grandmother’s place as her mom had gone out for some work. She was playing outside when the accused befriended her and luring her for chocolates, took her to his home and allegedly raped her, police said.

When her mother returned, the little one, all undressed, came running to her in tears. Initially, the mother assumed the girl undressed herself. It was only when she complained pain in her body, the mother inquired and got to know an old man, who resided in the neighbourhood, raped her, said police.

Without wasting any time, she rushed to a police station. Based on her complaint, Chirmiri police lodged an FIR under provisions of POCSO Act. When the police team tried to reach out to accused, he wasn't at home. A search was launched against him. He was arrested and presented before court and sent on judicial remand. The accused is a habitual drunkard, said police.

In another similar incident, a step-father allegedly raped his 19-year-old daughter by taking her from Raipur to Baloda Bazar district on the pretext of providing her higher education. The girl approached the police and he was arrested.

Her father promised her admission at a college in Baloda Bazar. He took her from Raipur to Baloda Bazar and allegedly raped her at a lodge, said police.

Shocked, the girl called the police control room seeking help. She feared he would attack on her again. The police immediately reached the location and nabbed the man.

He was arrested under sections of the IPC and sent to jail.

The girl was safely sent back home.
