55 per cent of people admit they have 'got intimate' in a car

Despite their rather prudish reputation, it seems Brits can be quite adventurous when it comes to getting frisky with their partners, with more than half admitting to getting intimate in their car.

In a survey of 2,000 people, 55 per cent admitted to getting intimate in their car, with men more likely to confess at 61 per cent. Meanwhile, nine per cent said it was none of the surveyor’s business.

A penchant for in-car intimacy varied by region, according to the study by online car marketplace Auto Trader, with 80 per cent of those in Sunderland saying they’ve done the deed in the car, compared with just 37 per cent in Cardiff.

Perhaps worryingly given the context of the questioning, 64 per cent of respondents admitted to ‘being in love with their car’, with 22 per cent saying they loved their motor more than their partner.

With less than a week until Valentine’s Day Brits showed that perhaps romance really is dead, as 23 per cent said they would rather spend money on their car than their loved one and 18 per cent said they’d rather end their relationship than sell their car.

Auto Trader’s Rory Reid said: “I’m not surprised so many Brits have admitted to such a naughty act in their car – as a nation, we’re definitely passionate about our motors.”

Upon further questioning, Auto Trader says Brits voted the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera as the sexiest car, followed by the Jaguar F-Type and Aston Martin DB4.
